Primary School
Starting school can be an unsettling time for young children. Let your child know that it's normal to feel anxious about starting school. Acknowledging fears can be helpful. For example, you can try saying,
“You may be feeling nervous or scared about starting school, and that's OK. You can get through it, and I'm here to help.”
The story ‘The Colour Monster Goes to School’ tackles starting school nerves for young children. Click on the book to listen to the story.
It will help to discuss what to expect and possible aspects of the day which they might feel unsure about.
You can also listen to the story of ‘Ruby’s Worry’ which encourages children to talk about their worries. Click on the book to listen to the story.
Talk to your child about their worries and what they can do when they have a worry.
Don't forget to bring your paper bag monster puppets when you start school. We are looking forward to seeing them.
