Year Two trip to the Black Country Museum - Friday 3rd March
We had a spectacular day at the Black Country Museum! We were transported back in time and became time travellers for the day to explore what life was like for people in the Black country. Our guide for Mrs Hashdi's group was Dave, who told us all about the history of the area and explained to us where the term 'Black country' came from. He even taught us some Black country sayings like 'ozzz' which is a word they use for horse and 'the cut' which is what they call a canal!! We visited some old shops to see what they would have been like. We didn't like the sound of some of the sweets they used to eat as they used some very strange things to colour the sweets such as rust! We looked in an old grocery store and learned why their shoes never wore out! We even participated in a 1912 lesson in St. James' school so we could see what school was like over 100 years ago. This was really exciting for us as we have been learning about what school was like in the past. We saw how strict the teachers were - Mrs Burn even got the cane because the teacher said she had stolen a sweet! (It was only pretend though so we knew Mrs Burn hadn't really taken a sweet or got caned thank goodness!!) We looked round an old back to back house and saw the cramped conditions they had to live in. Our trip ended with a ride back to the coach on an old Midland Red bus. What an amazing day we all had!
World book day 2023
We had such fun dressing up as our favourite characters from books! Take a look at our wonderful costumes! Can you guess which books the characters are from?
Art - Spring 1 2023
As part of our Art curriculum we have been looking at sculpture and 3D clay houses. We have experimented with various techniques using clay such as rolling clay into a ball with our hands and also using a rolling pin to roll it out flat and then used objects to make patterns. We also used to the clay to make a pinch pot, using all the techniques we had learned such as score and slip. Take a look at us in action!
Computing - December 2022
We have had great fun this half term in our unit on digital photography! We particularly enjoyed taking one another's picture and then altering it to change the colour and effects. Take a look at some of our fantastic pictures!
Art
Our unit this half term is ‘tell a story’. We have been looking at different techniques to create expression. We have used different medium to make marks, including charcoal, oil pastels and chalk. We have also studied how to sketch using pencils and blending in. We began by sketching pine cones and shells and today we used all the skills we have learned to begin to undertake an observational drawing of a teddy! Take a look at us at work!
Welcome to Otters!
We have had so much fun making our vehicles out of junk material! Take a look at our wonderful work!
We love our reading corner! It is like a magical forest!
