Welcome to Year 5 Hawks!  It's proving to be an exciting year already, even though we have only just started!

In Maths, we are working on Place Value and it is quite a challenge to write our numbers up to a million!  It is great to see that everyone is ready to embrace the challenge and try their very best in their lessons.  In English, our writing focus is on folk tales and learning how to write setting descriptions, persuasive letters and developing our writing skills to publish our own quest story. Our reading, our focus is developing the skills of retrieval, inference, prediction and summarising texts. We use our class library daily and choose a range of exciting books to fire our imaginations when we write our own stories. The class are always happy to tell you which author they have been reading and how their writing has been influenced by the new vocabulary they read at home. You never know, we might have the next JK Rowling in our class!

In PE, we are covering Dodgeball and ball control techniques. In French, we will learn how to buy a baguette in a French supermarket in our shopping topic. The life of the Tudors in History is covered and we are learning about Sikhism in RE. 

We have created some exciting self portraits using Pop Art which are proudly displayed in our classroom.
