Starting school is an important stage in your child’s life, whether it is Nursery or Reception. Here at Peterbrook School, we believe that through working in close partnership with parents, we are able to make it a positive and pleasurable experience for both you and your child.

The induction process helps us to foster a working partnership with yourselves and provides your child with a period of familiarisation with the staff and peers. We would encourage you to become as involved as possible with our planned activities even if your child already attends the school.

Parent Information Evening 2021

  June 2021

Main School Hall

Once the places have been offered we will send out the invites for the Parent Information Evening. This is an important meeting where we share information about starting school and we would encourage all parents whose children we be starting Nursery or Reception in 2021 to attend.

Please bring your child's birth certificate along to the meeting, so that we can verify your child's name and date of birth.

Home Visits July 2021

These are for pupils who are new to school only

Reception and Nursery teachers will arrange to visit all new children and their parents at home during July.

'Stay and Play' Visits to School 2021

Reception Pupils

July 2021

These are for pupils who are new to school only

This is an afternoon session where pupils can come into school with their parents or carers to play. They will meet other new pupils and the Reception staff.

Nursery Pupils

September 2021

This is a session where pupils can come into Nursery with their parents or carers to play. They will meet other new pupils and the Nursery staff.

This year due to the pandemic we offered video calls to all pupils to help familiarise the children with the staff. We will regularly review the above timetable in the light of the current situation.

'Welcome to Nursery' Workshop 2021

Nursery - September 2021

The 'Welcome to Nursery' workshop enables parents to come together for an informal session and share their feelings and concerns about their child starting school.

Starting at Peterbrook Primary School

September 2020

At Peterbrook Primary School we have a staggered intake in both Nursery and Reception. Staff are able to support individual pupils with the transition into the school environment and to establish important routines. It also enables the children to feel safe and secure in their new environment.

Reception Pupils

Pupils who turn 5 years during the academic year September 2020 - August 2021

Only pupils who are new to school attend for the first few days at the beginning of term. This enables the staff to support them in smaller groups and allows the children time to become familiar with the new environment. They are allocated a class, where we feel they will be most suited. All pupils will be full time within one week.

Nursery Pupils

Pupils who turn 4 years during the academic year September 2020 - August 2021

The pupils attend the first few sessions in smaller groups to enable the staff to support them in smaller groups and allows the children to become familiar with the new environment. All pupils will be attending normal sessions within one week.
