In maths, we have been working hard on decimals; we’ve been cementing our core understanding of the place value in decimals in a variety of ways. We have been doing this through the help of place value charts and number lines.
Within English today, we have been working hard on our non-chronological reports all about Antarctica. We have been drafting and editing our work, with a key focus on creating lists, using subject specific vocabulary and enhancing our writing through detailed and descriptive sentences.
Our netballers have been hard at work in their training session today; we’re now preparing for our matches against other schools, which are throughout the next half term. All the children are putting in phenomenal effort; working hard on fast paced netball and knowing the correct rotations.
In Art, we have all been researching famous artists, such as David Hockney and Fiona Rae. We have answered questions, completed research and practised replicating their work in our sketch books. Today, we have chosen a specific artist and we have been using, crayons, pastels and paints to create our own versions of their masterpieces.
This afternoon, we have learnt all about ‘Safer Internet Day’, which has produced many fascinating and useful discussions on how we can enjoy being online in a safe way. We talked about how being online is great; however, there are many things that we can enjoy without technology, such as playing outside with friends and family. We created posters all about it.
A group of 20 children took part in the local area sports hall athletics event and were all fantastic. We won many races and events and came 5th place overall. It was a great event and we all had an amazing time!
We had a fantastic time celebrating children in need last week; we ran our socks off for our challenge of running from Solihull to Qatar (3328 miles). We raised lots of awareness for the charity and will raise lots of money too It was a great day!
We also watched the first England match of the World Cup; we all got into it and saw a fantastic 6-2 win! We look forward to the rest of an amazing tournament!
In maths, we have been working hard on our fractions; we have been finding equivalent fractions and simplifying, along with placing equivalent fractions on a number line.
Within English today, we have been working on up-levelling our sentences; we have done this through adding rich vocabulary and a variety of punctuation to our work, where we have created fantastic, descriptive biographies about our peers.
Within Guided Reading, our groups have been working hard on their figurative language skills; they have been finding examples of key vocabulary and also using descriptive vocabulary and punctuation in written tasks.
In Science, we have finished off our topic of the Heart and Lungs with a really fun and active lesson; we’ve completed a variety of exercises, showing how our heart rate rises as we exercise more and then how it decreases again as we rest.
A group of our amazing Year 6 children were invited to take part in a ten pin bowling event at Acocks Green Bowling lanes.
We entered two teams of four into the competition and we were phenomenal!
One of our teams came in 1st place and the other in 3rd! Incredible! It really was a great event and our children represented all of our school with such pride and determination! What a team!
We had a fantastic trip in Llanrug this year; it really was a week where memories were made and will last a lifetime!
It was a week full of new experiences for us all, where we got to be adventurous on land and in the water.
We rode in canoes, completed zip wires, rock climbed, went mining, walked a lot, swam in the sea, went rafting, threw ourselves into the sea from rocks and many many more activities, which I'm sure the children have told you about.
It was a really special trip and the children were amazing!
Our team of superstars, who won our local cricket festival when they were in Year 5, were invited to the 'champion of champions' event at Edgbaston Cricket Stadium.
It was a fantastic opportunity for our group and they produced some fine cricket throughout the day!
We played five games in total; winning 3 and narrowly losing 2. Amazing!
It really was a great day and the children were a real credit to the school!
