We are so pleased that the Reading Volunteers programme, organised by school and Parent Council, is now fully up and running!
Our team of fabulous volunteers completed their first sessions this week, and will be working across all classes from Nursery right through to Year 6.
Some of our volunteers said:
“I did my first session this afternoon with Reception. It was so much fun and felt really good to be able to help the little ones along.”
“I really enjoyed it and what lovely children. I'm looking forward to my next session!”
“I really enjoyed the sessions and the children were so lovely.”
Reading is so important here at Peterbrook and we encourage the children to read as much as possible. Volunteers are helping to ensure the children get extra opportunities to read, in addition to what they already do with teachers and at home.
If you would like to become a Reading Volunteer, please contact the school office, speak to a member of staff or a member of Parent Council.
Parent Council were delighted that Year One parents and carers finally got to enjoy a Dine In Day event with their children recently. This event is normally run for the Reception classes but we were pleased to be able to extend it to Year One this year as they sadly missed out last year due to Covid restrictions.
The children were so excited to show their grown ups what to do in the dinner hall and there was lots of excited chatter over lunch.
After lunch everyone got the chance to enjoy some playground fun. The grown ups were all worn out after lots of games of hide and seek, hop scotch, chalk drawing, and running races!
Thank you to everyone who attended and to all the children for being such fabulous hosts! We’re also grateful to the kitchen staff and lunchtime assistants who were so friendly and welcoming.
We’re hoping to run the same event for the current Reception class later in the term.
Here are a few of the lovely comments we received from those who came along:
“I had such a good time, albeit I am now exhausted! From the moment I arrived everyone was so welcoming and could not have been more helpful. Everything was so well organised and the food was superb, and the ladies in the canteen were marvellous with the children and us adults.”
“The supervising staff were all wonderful, they ushered the children and parents through and made sure we all knew what we were doing. The staff knew all the children by name, even the serving staff who had conversations with the children as they passed through, which I thought was lovely.”
“Outside in the playground was great, the children played so nicely amongst themselves, the play equipment is a super touch to practise skills. The chalks offered lots of imaginative play.”

⭐️ We had a fantastic day on Friday!
EYFS and KS1 were able to take part in an Easter bonnet parade - here are some of our children in their brilliant hats!
KS2 were invited to take part in an egg decorating competition - well done to all who took part, they were amazing!
Congratulations to the winners from these events and thank you to the PTFA for organising the event!
Have a lovely Easter break all and we will see you on Monday 25th April! ⭐️
We have recently set up a partnership with a local residential home, a group of children at school have become 'penpals' with some of the residents there, exchanging letters, drawings and crafts. They were delighted with their recent replies and are having so much fun giving back to the local community. It has been lovely to see 2 very different generations learning from each other and getting along so well. Well done to all the children who have been involved in the project so far, we hope to have even more children joining in soon.
We have had great fun celebrating British Science Week here at Peterbrook, with the support of the amazing Dr Jenny Watson. The children have taken part in a number of physics-based investigations and experiments from sweets to rocket mice, from fossils to hoverboards we have had it all! It's been a fantastic experience for the teachers and children alike.
On Wednesday 9th March, the children had a special visitor come into assembly. Perry, the mascot for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games came and taught the children a little bit about the Commonwealth, who oversees the commonwealth and the Games that will be taking place so close to home! Pupils were on their feet getting warmed up and acting out the different sports we will expect to see at the Games. We watched a video about the Commonwealth Batton and where it is now, we saw that it was in country 38 of 72 and will return to the UK in June ready for the start of the games. We finished off the assembly getting a lovely photo with Perry. We had great fun and learnt lots!
Thank you to our amazing kitchen and lunch supervisor teams for giving us an awesome Christmas dinner. We had a delicious traditional Christmas meal with all the trimmings, followed by a Christmas tree choc-ice! Our lunch hall was decorated, and Christmas carols were played. We pulled crackers and enjoyed the contents - paper crowns, Christmas stickers and cheesy Christmas jokes! A bonus was we were all dressed in Christmas jumpers for Save the Children. Thank you for your generous donations
Our Christmas Fair is a long standing Peterbrook tradition which we have really missed, but boy did our PTFA pull out all the stops to ensure the Fair of 2021 was one we would all enjoy and never forget. Crafts of every description, piping hot chocolates, Y6 games, raffles, tombolas, hot-dogs, baked potatoes, home-baked cakes, fairground rides, jungle gym, mince pies, candy canes, gigantic lollipops and of course a visit from Father Christmas and his very helpful elves.
Thank you to all the families that joined us tonight your support and smiles are so very much appreciated. Thank you PTFA, you work tireless behind the scenes to create such amazing memories for our pupils and local community.
