Peterbrook
Primary School
In March 2013 the government announced a major new funding initiative to support the delivery of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding is provided by the Department for Education, with contributions from the Department of Health and the Department of Culture, Media and Sport. The premium will provide over £150 million per year for the academic years 2013-14 and 2015-16. The premium is paid directly to primary schools and is ring-fenced to spend on improving the quality of PE and sport provision for all pupils.
Now into our fifth Year of funding, Peterbrook Primary School has decided to spend its money with the intention of furthering the involvement of all children to take part in some form of Physical Education and sport at school.
Making sure the improvements we make are sustainable is crucial to the progress of P.E. and sport here at Peterbrook. These are discussed within the breakdown of our spending below:
The Government Childhood Obesity Plan has set out the ambition for all children to achieve one hour of physical activity every day, with schools being responsible for delivering 30 of these active minutes.
We are members of the Youth Sport Trust and Active 30:30 is their response to this ambition, and has been developed to help schools reduce sedentary behavior and increase physical activity in young people outside of timetabled curriculum PE. It also addresses how to help influence the remaining 30 active minutes to be achieved outside of school by engaging families, clubs and community groups.
The following information will highlight all of the work that we are putting in with our children here at Peterbrook to work on this, alongside providing an excellent provision of P.E. and school sport:
The funding has been doubled for the 2018/19 school year, so we have been granted £16,000,
plus £10 per individual school child.
The school have chosen to spend money on purchasing new equipment for the school. We have funded new netball posts, so that we can have an A and a B team this year, (allowing more children the chance to compete) football goals, basketballs, footballs and netballs. Without this equipment, the school would not be able to take part in sporting events against other schools and P.E. lessons would not be as engaging as they are. We have also purchased new basketball posts and cemented them into the playground, along with purchasing new plastic barriers to create a football arena, ensuring there is more space for other activities on the playground.
We have also restocked our P.E. cupboard, so that lessons will be positively enhanced. Alongside this, we have restocked the playground shed, full of new equipment, so that break time and lunch times will also see positive benefits from having newer and a wider variety of equipment.
This equipment will be very positive for the school and the children taking part in both the lessons and extra-curricular school sport, especially with the continuation of our brilliant new scheme of work.
The cost of the new sporting equipment, so far, is £1244.83
We are delighted to announce that we, Peterbroook Primary School have achieved the Gold level #SGMark from our @YourSchoolGames application! 🏆 for the 2018/19 academic year.
The School Games Mark is a Government led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of sporting competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.
As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded again this year.
In the past four years, we have progressed from the Bronze award 2014/15, to the Silver award 2015/16 to the
Gold Award 2016/17 and we have now retained our Gold Award for the year of 2017/18, which shows that school sport here at Peterbrook is moving forward all the time.
The sports premium is having a very positive impact on the sport here at Peterbrook!
