On Friday 24th June, Year 6 visited Stratford-Upon-Avon in an attempt to enhance our pupils' knowledge of Shakespeare as we rehearse for our upcoming summer production, 'Shakespeare Rocks'. As you can see from the pictures below, we travelled to Stratford on the train following a short walk to Shirley station. Following our arrival in sunny Stratford, we headed to to 'Royal Shakespeare Company' theatre while the children took in the sight of the old bulidings and even some street performers!
At the theatre, Year 6 pupils learned about the variety of plays which are performed there and were told about the differences between the theatre in Stratford and the famous 'Globe' theatre in London; the very place where Shakespeare's plays used to be performed. At this point, it was clear that our Year 6 pupils had learned a lot from their various roles in the production and could explain what they knew about William Shakespeare and his family. At the theatre, some pupils were able to show off their acting skills before we all visited the gift shop!
Following our spending spree, we ate lunch on the grass in the sunshine and had the opportunity to cross the River Avon on the chain ferry (Mrs Hurd used her skills of negotiation to get us a cheaper price!)
It was then time to head back to the train station, via a quick look at Shakespeare's birthplace, for our return to school. Pupils arrived back shortly after 3.15 and many visited the PTFA Fun Day to round off an exciting day!
