FAMOUS AUTHOR, STEVE SMALLMAN, VISITS PETERBROOK

On Friday, Key Stage One enjoyed a visit from Steve Smallman.  He is a children’s author who has had many of his books published.  These include ‘Dragon Stew’, ‘Hippobottymus’ and ‘Poo in the Zoo’.

Steve began his time with Year One by reading two of his books – ‘Poo in the Zoo’ and ‘Hippobottymus’. The children really enjoyed his readings as he made all of the characters come alive with special voices and lots of expression!  Then Steve asked the children for ideas for characters, which he drew on the whiteboard whilst coming up with a story to go with them.  It was amazing to see the children’s ideas developing right in-front of our eyes!

With Year Two, Steve read ‘Dragon Stew’, and we were very lucky to hear the next instalment of this tale, which hasn’t been published yet! Then Steve asked for character ideas from the Year Two pupils, and again drew these for us as we watched!

It was thrilling to have a published author in school, and our pupils had a fantastic time with him. We will be finding a suitable place in school to display Steve’s drawings as a permanent reminder of his visit.
