L/O: Fractions S/C: Add and Subtract Fractions

Whole Class input:  Children recap their year 4 understanding and add and subtract fractions with the same denominator. They use bar models to support understanding of adding and subtracting fractions. Model the examples from the weekly plan on the board to explain how to add with same denominators. Children should copy examples into their books to ensure understanding.

Move on to modelling the following examples of subtracting fractions with the same denominator.

Move on to adding fractions that go over a whole and refresh understanding of being able to convert the improper fraction answer to a mixed number. They should use their skills that have been learned over the previous weeks. Complete the worksheets provided.

Success Criteria: I can plan my emotive poem.

This week you are going to write your own emotive poem inspired by one of the topics / poems studied this term (with the exception of Magic Box as you have already produced a poem for this).

Key poems: Tiger in a Zoo, Song of the Whale, Talking Turkeys, Coral Reef.

Today use the planning document attached to begin planning your poem.
