L/O: Fractions S/C: Adding Fractions
Children continue to represent adding fractions using the area model and the bar model to explore adding two or more fractions that are greater than 1. Children can record their totals as an improper fraction but will then convert this to a mixed number using their prior knowledge.
Refresh fluency questions on the board with the class. Children to answer questions on equivalent fractions, mixed numbers and improper fractions. They should find common denominators and convert fractions and mixed numbers where necessary.
Work through the following questions with the class. Remind them about finding a common denominator and converting fractions. Go through converting any improper fractions answers into mixed numbers with the correct methods.
