Maths

Children continue to represent adding fractions using the area model and the bar model to explore adding two or more fractions that are greater than 1. Children can record their totals as an improper fraction but will then convert this to a mixed number using their prior knowledge.

Refresh fluency questions on the board with the class. Children to answer questions on equivalent fractions, mixed numbers and improper fractions. They should find common denominators and convert fractions and mixed numbers where necessary.

Work through the following questions with the class. Remind them about finding a common denominator and converting fractions. Go through converting any improper fractions answers into mixed numbers with the correct methods.

See the test on the 2’s, 5’s and 10’s provided. You will have 3 minutes, write down how long it took to complete and then mark.

Success Criteria: To write a fantasy story.

Introduce cold write (this is a task to be completed independently): to write an imaginative, fantasy story involving a child protagonist (the leading character or one the the major characters in a play, film, novel etc.) who travels / enters a different world by some means.

Emphasis on description, comparison of worlds, new experiences there etc. Story must have an ending – does the character return to their own world?

Fantasy means imagining impossible or improbable things.

Before you start writing think about who your characters will be, where you will go and how your story will end.
