L/O: Fractions S/C: Subtracting Mixed Numbers

Children apply their understanding of subtracting fractions where one denominator is a multiple of the other to subtract proper fractions from mixed numbers. They continue to use models and number lines to support their understanding. Work through the following types of questions, linking back to ensuring that the denominators are the same through converting methods.

These questions can also be completed by converting the denominators first, then changing the mixed number into an improper fraction. You can then complete a simple subtraction calculation.

Recap end of chapter 3 where White Queen meets Edmund and then read start of chapter 4 to p.47. Read to ‘”I’ll do my best,” said Edmund.’

Our writing task is to turn this section into a play script. Recap the main points of the conversation between Edmund and the White Queen.

Familiarise yourself with features of play scripts – look back at last week’s work.
