Welcome to Kingfishers Class Page
Hi everyone and welcome to Kingfishers! This page will display general information and specific dates of events that you will need to know throughout the year. Photos and videos will appear on this page with parental consent
Homework for 4T will now be sent home on a Monday and collected in on a Friday. If your child is struggling with their homework, they can always bring it in and ask myself or any other member of the Year 4 team for help if needed. We are always happy to help. Children can also bring their homework in sooner if they have completed it.
Many Thanks,
Miss Timmins
To help us follow the world cup, we had a small class competition for the world cup. Each child picked a team at random. With house points at stake the class became very competitive and were all very excited to follow their teams. The winners of the world cup, along with second and third place then won a prize.
So congratulations to Argentina - Alfie, France - Armaan and Croatia - Braydon! Prizes will be coming home with children this week (4th- 6th January).
We have had a lot of fun for the end of our Autumn term! We've worn our best Christmas jumpers, performed amazingly at our Christmas Carol Concert, danced our hearts out at our Christmas Disco's and have let our creativity fly with our final week activities!
From all of the Year 4 staff, we hope you have a lovely time over the festive period! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
This half term we have continued our learning about the Ancient Greeks, which linked in with our English focus of Myths and Legends. We have been learning all about the different states of matter in Science and of course we are looking forward to our Christmas Carol Concert and our other Christmas celebrations in December!
This half term we have been making clay pots inspired by the Ancient Greeks. Check out some of our finished products!
We have all settled well into Year 4 and we have dived straight into our learning with our topics for this half term of Ancient Greece and Digestion! We enjoyed looking at where Greece is and identifying the countries and seas which border it.

Key Information
Homework
Homework is sent home every Monday and will need to be returned on a Friday. Children will receive Maths and English, spellings to learn, a word search and a times table sheet to complete. The children will be tested on the ten words from the spellings homework, each Friday.
PE
PE clothes are worn to school on Thursday and Friday. The children are in the junior hall participating in a gross motor skill program learning how to balance and be agile whilst maintaining coordination and control. They will need to wear blue shorts and a white t-shirt.
Music
This term the children will start learning a string instrument. Mrs Marks from the Solihull music service will be conducting music lessons on Wednesday afternoons.
Reading
Reading at home is important and I recommend that your child has access to a book that they enjoy reading. During guided reading I will write a small note asking your child to perform a particular task, practise a particular skill or converse with an adult about a certain skill they have been learning. Having the opportunity to talk about a text and practise finding information and using evidence in the text to support their answers is something which will go a long way in developing your child's comprehension skills.
Times tables
By the end of this academic year, Y4 children are expected to know all of the times tables. Some children do say that they know them because they can recite them in order. The children need to know the multiplication facts and the associated division facts. The children have all been sent home with a log in for Times Table Rockstars so they can access this from home. There are multiple modes within this which the children can use to practise specific tables or all of them together. We are now giving the children an online practise and test each Friday. They will be formally tested on all of the times tables at the end of each term. The children have to answer 25 questions and only have 6 seconds each question - NOT EASY!
