Falcons

Wednesday 6th April 2022

The spring term has nearly come to an end and I know we're all really looking forward to a break after a lot of hard work this term. From booster sessions after school to revision sessions in school and a big push on improving our writing - we really have been keeping busy! All pupils have taken a letter home today which has the timetable for SATs week (week commencing 9th May). They will also be bringing home some extra homework over the holidays to help prepare them for our assessments.

Make sure you all make time to have a really good break over the holidays too and we look forward to seeing you all refreshed and ready to go on Monday 25th April!

Happy Easter!

We have started the term with some really enjoyable activities such as: Break the Rules Day, World Book Day and last we week we all looked bright and cheerful when we dressed up in blue and yellow to support the people of the Ukraine. We have also had some extra swimming lessons on a Thursday morning which were very beneficial for all of the class.

It is now time to look forward to the weeks ahead in Year Six. We have an important time approaching, as we prepare for the SATs in May, with children working hard in all lessons up to now. We have been carrying out booster sessions and the children have dealt with these superbly, including a long Tuesday each week with work continuing until 4:15pm.  We are also at the point of the academic year when children have received their secondary school offers so we will be looking forward to some transition work as our Year Six pupils prepare for the next exciting chapter in their education. Until then, let's keep up the fantastic work and continue to enjoy every day within school.

We've come to the end of our first term in Year 6 and what a busy time we've had! The children have all worked hard and have produced some excellent work across all subjects. We've also had fun in the classroom and have enjoyed being creative in our last week before Christmas. Photos of some of our creations are below. We hope you have found our Christmas song on our year group page too!

We both wish you a Happy Christmas and a wonderful break before we return in January. Remember, we will start our swimming sessions on Thursday 6th January.

November 2021

We hope you all had a fantastic break after a fabulous first half term in Year 6. We were both really impressed with the efforts you put in as you started Year 6 and can't quite believe all that we have managed to achieve already!

In English, we tackled a really interesting unit together - narrative poetry. We read a range of poems that told different stories, including 'The Highwayman', 'The Slave's Dream' and 'What has happened to Lulu?'. Each poem raised so many discussion points and we were impressed with just how all our pupils immersed themselves in this work. It has resulted in some powerful writing and fascinating debates and discussions.

In maths, we have taken our topic of 'Place Value' to new levels, ordering and rounding large numbers. We then moved on to working on our four operations and have tackled some engaging reasoning questions around these rules. Remember to keep learning your times tables - these will help you with all areas of maths.

Outside maths and English, we have studied 'Heart and Lungs' in Science, fossils in art, throw tennis in PE, the rainforest in Humanities and music, Humanism in R.E and 'Being Me in My World' in PSHE.

In addition to all this varied work within the classroom, many pupils also went on our outwards bound trip to North Wales. We hope you have all managed to look at the amazing photos from the week and that these will give you memories to treasure forever. A big well done to those pupils who stayed in school during the week too - you were superstars and tackled your project work brilliantly!

Here's to another positive, busy half term in Falcons!
