Eagles

April 2022

I write this in the final couple of days before the Easter holidays and it's hard to believe that only twelve school weeks remain for our Year Six pupils before they leave us to go to secondary school! Fortunately, we have lots to look forward to before then. Firstly, we have continued to work very hard in preparation for SATs and a letter went home with each pupil in the year group on Wednesday 6th April, detailing the assessment timetable and our plans for some additional homework over Easter. The SATs are an opportunity for every child to showcase what they have learned throughout Key Stage Two and I know they will all put 100% effort into each test.

The final term in Year Six is, in my opinion, the most exciting one and we will provide more details at a later date of upcoming events. Until then, I would like to praise all children for their continued hard work, thank all parents/carers for your support and wish you all a very relaxing Easter break. I look forward to seeing everyone back in school on Monday 25th April.

March 2022

We begin a lovely sunny week as spring is upon us, and it's time to look forward to the weeks ahead in Year Six. Firstly, we have an important time as we prepare for the SATs in May, with children working hard in all lessons up to now. We have been carrying out booster sessions and the children have dealt with these superbly, including a long Tuesday each week with work continuing until 4:15pm. After two disrupted years due to Covid, it has been so positive to have consistency since September with all children in school learning and of course socialising with friends too. We are also at the point of the academic year when children have received their secondary school offers so we will be looking forward to some transition work as our Year Six pupils prepare for the next exciting chapter in their education. Until then, let's keep up the fantastic work and continue to enjoy every day within school.

December 2021

It's the final day before Christmas and I would like to say well done to all pupils in Eagles for getting through a long term! We have enjoyed many activities and, such is the nature of Year Six, have completed lots of hard work across a range of subjects. The children have risen to the challenges they have faced this term and have been determined to succeed - I am sure this will continue from January too. It's been lovely to end the term with some festive activities. I wish all children in Eagles, as well as parents and carers, a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

November 2021

We are having a fantastic first term in Year Six and it is lovely to have had a calm start to the school year after the uncertainty of the past two years due to Covid. The Eagles class have impressed me greatly with their hard work and organisational skills; homework has been completed regularly and on time each week while children are also independently learning their times tables and spellings ready for weekly tests. Progress has so far been very pleasing and I am sure this will continue as we approach Christmas and the next calendar year.

In maths, we have been working hard during our topics on place value and the four operations, with these having a positive impact on children's arithmetic scores. We look forward to new units this half term too. In English, we have so far focused on narrative poetry, with children understanding each of these poems very well and producing superb writing based on the events within them. In other subjects, we have enjoyed learning about the heart and lungs in science, have found out lots of information about the world's rainforests in humanities and played some excellent throw tennis during PE.

A clear highlight of our year so far was the trip to the Arete Centre, Llanrug with all children representing Peterbrook superbly. They were outside of their usual comfort zone but children were willing to take on challenges and I think every pupil surprised themselves with what they were able to achieve - a fantastic week! (I hope you have seen the photos on the Arete website!)

We now look forward to the coming weeks and months in Year Six with Christmas events upon us in the not too distant future. A great start to the year and keep up the great work, Eagles.
