We have worked very hard on multiplication and division this half term and have learned how to use the formal written method to work out some tricky calculations! Keep practising your times tables as this will make it a lot easier!
We have had a wonderful half term being poets and have used alliteration, rhyme and similes to create beautiful poems.
Our topic for this term is 'All about the UK'. We have learned the difference between countries, regions, counties and cities and have located these on a map. We have learned about human and physical features and created maps using symbols as well as locating symbols on a map using grid references. Finally, we ended our unit of work by going on a walk around the local area which was a huge success and the children behaved beautifully! A big thank you to all of the parents who volunteered to help!
We have had another fantastic half term and have learned lots of new things.
We have finished our units on 'fractured stories' and 'All About Bears', we have been focusing on fronted adverbials, direct speech and expanded noun phrases. In Maths we have been learning our times tables - remember in Year 3 children are required to know their 3, 4 and 8 times tables so please keep learning these!
We have completed two Science topics: Rocks and Animals and Skeletons. We have enjoyed sorting rocks, testing rocks to see how durable and permeable they are and found out how fossils are made. The highlight of the half term, however, has to be dissecting owl pellets! We found lots of bones in them all belonging to a rodent!
This half term, we have had great fun learning about the Stone Age. We have built shelters, lit a candle, learned about Skara Brae, our oldest ancestors, made Stone Age pots, created our own cave paintings and much more! Below are photos of our clay pots and cave paintings.
