Hi 2L, wanted to give you a quick update on the caterpillars!
Last week each caterpillar had made their chrysalis.
A week later the butterflies started to break out of their chrysalis. The butterflies needed a few days to dry out their wings and snacked on orange segments and sugar water to help build their energy and strength
The butterflies are now happily flying around their net ready to be released on Monday (6th)
On Thursday we took part in World Book Day! We completed many activities to celebrate World Book Day including creating a character profile, games, word searches, Where's Wally, creating our own bookmarks etc. We also spent time in the morning sharing our favourite stories.
The children looked amazing and had a wonderful day!
This week in English we were created a character profile for Shakespeare's character King Lear. We wanted to use more interesting and adventurous adjectives. To help us understand the unusual adjectives we used the iPads to search for their definitions. We worked as a team to find the definitions and then wrote them down in our books to support our character profile draft.
As part of our art topic, we created 2D painting and 3D sculptures of animals.
For our paintings, first we drew our animals using a sectioned picture. We then used paint to carefully paint our pictures. Once they were dry we used black paint to add details.
For our sculptures, we practised clay techniques including: pinching, twisting, rolling etc. We then worked in partner to create our animal.
Over the last three weeks we have been starting our art topic of 'Landscapes'. We first looked at contrasting landscapes of a Winter scene and Autumn scene. We discussed the difference between cool and warm colours and created a tinting chart.
We then created our Autumn landscapes using paint and sponges. We finally created our Winter landscapes using black card and chalks.
This week we participated in Green Day! The children looked fantastic in their green clothes! On Friday afternoon, we went into the Eco garden to take part in a minibeast hunt. We used spades and other equipment to dig into the soil to look for worms, ants, spiders etc. Can you remember what minibeasts you found?
This week we have been continuing with our DT unit. After planning/ designing our vehicles we began to create a model using recycled materials. We thought carefully about the different shapes we would need to choose to keep to our design ideas.
Thank you so much for all the recycled materials brought into school!
Our topic for the Autumn term is Explorers. As part of our topic, we have been looking at different types of vehicles as part of our Design and Technology. After looking at many different types of vehicles (car, van, plane, ship, motorbike etc.) that we could use to explore the world, we used the laptops to design our own vehicle. We also discuss what a good vehicle needs such as: windows, wheels, doors, windscreen wipes, lights etc.
