School Council 2016-17

SCHOOL COUNCIL 2016-2017

Congratulations to Mighty, Amber, Jimmi, Tom, Emma, Mohammad, Georgia, Sophia, Jacob and Ruby for being elected as the School Council members for your classes.

Task 1

Organising break and lunch door duties. The rota is on the wall.

Task 2

Following our meeting with Emma from Lloyds Bank, each class needs to decide how they will raise money for Children In Need in November.

Task 3

14-18 November 2017

The School Council helped to arrange an assembly and classroom activities to raise awareness about the problems of bullying. Our Parent Council joined us on the Thursday during break to run anti-bullying workshops.

Task 4

We ran a Christmas decoration competition. The School Councillors explained to their classes that children could make a decoration to hang on our Christmas Tree with special prizes for the most original entries.

Task 5

Review of school dinners. Tina, our wonderful cook from our school kitchen, joined us to review the current hot meal provision. She went through the menus and asked the children which of the meals they enjoyed and which they didn't - and why! Following this meeting, Tina changed some of the meals and said that the comments were invaluable.

SCHOOL COUNCIL LEAD CURRICULUM REVIEW

Meeting - 25.01.16

As part of the school's review of the new curriculum, our School Council were asked for their views on their lessons. The outcomes of the meeting were:

* The children really enjoy the topics in the International Primary Curriculum;

* The children are less aware about individual subjects than they were previously;

* Lots of musical opportunities occur throughout school (singing assembly / peripatetic music lessons / Harvest Festival / Carol Concerts / KS1 Christmas production / UKS2 Summer show / EY nativity / Y4 wider opportunities in brass and strings). However, the children would like more music to be taught during topic lessons;

This information was shared with the teachers at their staff meeting. Mr Russell is working with subject leaders on reviewing the curriculum and this information will be really helpful.
