A planned curriculum is provided, using the Development Matters in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) document. The Four Themes of the EYFS are implemented and supported by your child’s key worker. Parent evenings give us the opportunity to provide information on this document and also share learning development and progress specific to your child in an informal setting.
The Four Themes of the EYFS
1. A Unique Child
The unique diversity of individuals and communities is valued and respected. No child or family is discriminated against.
2. Positive Relationships
A Key Person has special responsibilities for working with a small number of children, giving those children the reassurance they need to feel safe and cared for whilst also building relationships with their parents.
3. Enabling Environment
A rich and varied environment support the children's learning and development. It gives them the confidence to explore and learn in secure and safe, yet challenging, indoor and outdoor spaces.
4. Learning & Development
When children have opportunities with ideas in different situations and with a variety of resources, they discover connections and come to new and better understandings and ways of doing things. Adult support in this process enhances their ability to think critically and ask questions. Practitioners teach children by ensuring challenging, playful and specific areas of learning and development.
EYFS curricular activities provide opportunities for children and adults to work in partnership. Children's play reflects their wide ranging and varied interests - their actions are observed and recorded by their Key Worker. Within the PAWS Nursery classroom, on the Partnership with Parents noticeboard, there is regularly updated information regarding the letter, number, shape, colour being taught as well as child initiated activities plus adult led themes.
Peterbrook PAWS Nursery encourages and supports a child's self-esteem, self-belief and a positive disposition towards learning. Positive guidance with classroom rules and manners are implemented with all the children's input and with the help of their friend, 'Millie Moo'.
