Solihull FA Cup Quarter Final vs Marston Green Junior School
After winning the Maypole Cup last week, Peterbrook FC were full of confidence going into their quarter final fixture against Marston Green. This was an away fixture, so we traveled to the North of Solihull to play against what we knew would be a very strong opposition.
Team: Joe, Zak, Jimmi, Raheem, Sam W, Sam C & Tom
The weather was great and everyone was ready to play. The game began and Marston Green were attacking constantly. They hit the bar and the post but couldn't break down the Peterbrook FC defense, especially with Joe in goal. We had a few counter attacks but we were defending for our lives! 15 minutes went by and still the opposition couldn't get a break through. Last ditch defending from Zak, Jimmi and Raheem was fantastic to watch! Eventually we got into the game and with 5 minutes of the first half remaining we got a break through and Sam W slotted the ball in the corner for 1-0. We kept pressing and Tom was put through by Sam C and buried another into the corner for 2-0! Within a minute Raheem put Tom through on goal again and Tom made it 3-0! After a great bit of team defending, we were winning 3-0 and the half time whistle came!
Mr H had a quiet word with the team in the shade and let them know that our defending was why we were winning and we had been battling brilliantly all over the pitch. We knew we had to keep calm and play for position on the pitch and that's how we started the second half. We started well but knew that Marston Green would come out attacking. They had a few shots and then after 5 minutes they deservedly got a scrambling goal to make it 3-1.
Peterbrook FC did not let this affect them and knew the next goal would be decisive. A cross came in from Raheem's long throw and Sam W volleyed the ball through the keepers legs to make it 4-1! Both teams were now tiring in the blistering heat and it was end to end but with no more scorers. The game finished 4-1 and Peterbrook FC march on into the Cup Semi-Finals!
Well played to everyone!
Players of the Match:
Zak & Jimmi - Defended excellently as a pair, intercepting everything that came through and set the attacking players away on some dangerous attacks.
Well played to Sam W and Tom who both scored 2 goals each!
Team: Joe, Zak, Cassius, Raheem, Sam C, Sam W, Ella & Dylan
Peterbrook FC once again entered the annual Maypole Schools Football Competition. This is a fantastic event for lots of local schools and we always enjoy the tournament. This year, 7 schools entered and were split into 2 different groups.
Our first match was against Chilcote Primary, who we lost to in the final last year. Unfortunately, the match was an exact replica of the previous fixture and Peterbrook FC had multiple chances but just could not score. With 1 minute remaining Chilcote got a corner and scored with a fantastic header into the top corner. We had been beaten 1-0.
We knew that we had to raise our game for our next two matches or we could be out. Our next game was against St Martin de Porres Primary and we were all out attacking in the game and hit the post and went close on a number of occasions. We knew we had to win and the ball got played across their penalty box and a scramble ensued with an own goal scored, which meant that Peterbrook FC were 1-0 up. The opposition hadn't given up though and their striker had a few good shots, bringing out the best in out goalkeeper, Joe, who made a world class one handed save to give us a 1-0 win!
Our final group game was against Colmore Primary and because of how the other results had gone, we knew that we needed a draw or a win to go through. The game was end to end and once again we hit the post and the opposition went on great attacks too. Both teams were very attacking and Joe made some brilliant saves to keep the game 0-0 and that's how it finished. We were through to the semi-finals by the skin of our teeth!
Our semi-final was against Billesley Primary who were a very strong side and had won all of their games so far in the tournament. The game was battled well by both teams and both teams were enjoying spells of possession. Billesley went very close on a few occasions with Joe making great saves. They had some great little players, but with Raheem, Zak and Cassius holding strong at the back they didn't make much progress. Our players had to work their socks off in this game, but Ella, Dylan, Sam C and Sam W did just that, keeping good possession and creating some decent chances. No team were able to break the deadlock though and it finished 0-0. This meant penalties...
Penalties can go either way and this time, luck and talent were on our side and through goals from Raheem, Zak, Sam C and Joe; and with two great saves from Joe, we were through to the final!
This was the second year in a row that we had reached the final under the dynamic management of Mr Hughes and Mr Randle and Peterbrook FC were determined to go one better and take home the trophy this year. We had got better and better throughout the tournament and it really showed in the final with an early break by Sam W who passed the ball across to Ella who made it 1-0! In the second half we kept pressing and got a corner. Sam W whipped the ball in and Raheem rose up like a salmon to head the ball into the far corner to give their keeper no chance. The game finished 2-0 and we were champions!
Every single player was exceptional today and the team thoroughly deserved their tournament victory! The day was made even more special, as the team were presented with the trophy and medals by ex-professional footballer, Dele Adebola.
Players of the tournament:
Joe S - Unbelievable goalkeeping in all games and kept us in the games with outstanding saves!
Raheem - Faultless performances within all games and did all the simple things perfectly in the centre midfield!
Peterbrook FC finish 3rd in the South Solihull football league!
All of the players involved this year have had a fantastic season and have performed admirably. We ended up in 3rd position (out of 9 schools), just behind the two larger 3 form entry schools of Shirley Heath and Monkspath.
We have been very competitive in the league and we are through to the quarter finals of the Solihull Schools FA CUP, which is a credit to the hard work that all the players have put in to our team performances.
We look forward to our next Cup game....
League Match v Dorridge
Team: Joe, Zak, Jamie, Ella, Sam C, Sam W, Cassius, Reece & Tom
Another tough game against the team just below us in the league and Peterbrook FC knew that a win or a draw would guarantee them 3rd place in the league. We started really well and knocked the ball around playing some good passes. The football was free flowing and attacks were coming in thick and fast. We were on the attack again and the ball got cleared out of their box but only to Zak, who drilled a great shot into the far corner to make it 1-0! Fantastic strike!
After half time, Peterbrook FC continued to create chances and should have put the game to rest by scoring a couple more goals, however it just wasn't our day in front of goal. Unfortunately they had a one off counter attack and scored a rebound after a fantastic save from Joe. We kept pushing forwards and attacking but still we couldn't get the winning goal. A dominant performance that deserved the win, but the final score of 1-1 was enough to secure 3rd Place for the season!
Well played everyone and we look forward to taking our good performances into our quarter final match of the Solihull Schools Cup.
Player of the match:
Zak - Very solid at the back and topped off his performance with a great goal. Well played!
League Match v Monkspath
Team: Joe, Zak, Jamie, Ella, Sam C, Sam W, Cassius, Reece & Tom
On our final evening of league matches, we came up against a strong Monkspath team. Peterbrook FC were against the wind and rain in the first half, but both teams were trying to play some good passing football. The wind carried the ball forward into our half a lot though and Monkspath were able to take advantage on the counter attack and scored 3 goals before half time.
The second half came and Peterbrook FC were a completely different side and played some magnificent football and were on the attack, but yet again a counter attack let the opposition in to make it 4-0. Peterbrook FC were straight back on top and for the final 15 minutes of the game, didn't let Monkspath have a chance on the ball. Tom got the ball wide and delivered a cracking ball across for Sam C to whip a shot into the near post. We kept pressing and Sam C dribbled through and played in Ella who slotted the ball past the keeper to make it 4-2. Unfortunately time ran out, but if the game had been 5 minutes longer.... who knows what may have happened...
A fantastic second half performance.
Player of the match:
Sam C - Very confident in the middle of pitch; getting a goal and an assist. Well played!
League Match v St Alphege
Team: Joe, Zak, Ella, Sam C, Sam W, Cassius, Dylan & Raheem
A very difficult match in some very heavy rain conditions for today's league fixture. The first half was a bit end to end with the ball skidding all over the place on a tough, slippery playing surface. Peterbrook FC did create opportunities though and with a bit more composure on the ball and if we could have picked the right pass I'm sure a few more 1 on 1 chance would have been made. Unfortunately we couldn't take any and it was 0-0 at half time.
The second half began and we pushed forward a lot more and pressed their defense high up the pitch. Peterbrook were dominant straight from kick off and tested the keeper with a few shots. The keeper saved a shot and with a long kick forward their striker was 1 on 1 with Joe and slotted the ball away for 1-0. The goal came from nowhere.
After this, Peterbrook FC were on top and creating chance after chance but the surface and the flat ball provided by the opposition were not helping. The post was struck twice along with the crossbar once and it was never ending pressure. Eventually a wonderful strike in off the crossbar from Sam C put Peterbrook FC level at 1-1. The team didn't hold back and were gaining corners and free kicks but unfortunately couldn't get a second goal.
Fair play to St Alphege for holding out with a whole team second half defensive display with all players behind the ball. We just couldn't break them down for a winning goal but on another day the score would have been very different.
Well done for a battling display and we never gave up until the final whistle.
Player of the Match:
Zak - He was calm and composed on the ball and won his individual 1 on 1 battles with the strikers.
League Match v Coppice
Team: Joe, Zak, Ella, Sam C, Sam W, Cassius, Tom & Jimmi
It was the next league game for Peterbrook FC tonight, where the players were very keen to put their previous defeat behind them as quickly as possible. A 5:00pm kick off was not ideal as it didn't allow for a proper warm up and it showed for the first few minutes where we took time to adjust to the conditions.
It was end to end for the first 5 minutes of the game with both teams attacking but not really causing any problems for the goalkeepers. Peterbrook FC began to take control of the game in the first half and had a spell of 3 or 4 corners in a row, where Ella delivered some great set pieces and our attackers had great chances. The keeper from Coppice and their defenders made some super goal line clearances to keep them in the game. The pressure was telling though, and after a few chances at goal, the ball fell to Ella who slotted the ball home for a 1-0 lead to Peterbrook!
The game became a little end to end until the whistle went for half time....
The second half began with Peterbrook looking to attack from the start. We did so with some good pressure but got caught with a counter attack, as Coppice left 3 players up front against our 2 defenders. They made the most of it and scored a super long range shot that left Joe with no chance. 1-1!
This could have been the moment that swung the game in favour of Coppice, but Peterbrook FC were not going to let their heads drop. They continued to press and Mr H was encouraging the players to play their passing game as there was so much space for our wide players. Once the team started playing this way, space was created and the chances came. Tom made a fantastic run down the left, taking on 2 players and squared the ball to Sam W, who took a touch inside the defender and cracked the ball in past the keeper to make it 2-1 to Peterbrook! The team kept pressing and Sam C was now running the game from centre midfield... He found himself with lots of time outside the area and let fly with a rocket of shot that flew into the far corner to make it 3-1!
Cassius was doing a brilliant job of holding the ball up and setting our wider players away. Jimmi and Zak were controlling the game from the back again and are really becoming a solid defensive line. Coppice rarely attacked in the second half but when they did, it was dealt with by the two defenders. They did have one more long shot, which was hit with some venom but Joe was equal to it and got down low to save it and keep hold of the ball... another great save.
Inside the last couple of minutes and Peterbrook FC were comfortable and playing some good flowing football. This was shown by Sam C, with a 'Messi' like through ball from the half way line, past 2 defenders right into the path of Tom, who didn't make any mistake and put the ball away for a final score of 4-1! A hard fought, but well deserved result! Well played!
Player of the Match:
Jimmi - Defensively solid today and he read the game brilliantly. A fantastic display! Well played!
Last 16 - Cup Match v St Anthony's
Team: Joe, Zak, Ella, Dylan, Sam C, Sam W, Cassius, Tom & Jimmi
Another game for Peterbrook FC and this time it was in the last 16 of the Solihull FA Cup. The light was good and the playing conditions were perfect, if a little cold.
The team were fully focused during the warm up and knew that they had to be on top form with the cup competition getting down to the final 16 teams. Kick off came and Peterbrook were on top and pressing high up the pitch, making it difficult for the opposition to clear their lines and the presseure was surely going to lead to a chance.... Did it? Yes, it did! A good run down the wing from Sam W and a perfect ball across for Cassius to slide in with his left foot for 1-0!
Peterbrook did not let their foot off the gas and kept pressing, with Ella and Sam C making some fantastic runs with the ball and setting up some great chances. The pressure was too great for the defence and a ball whipped in from the side was cooly slotted home with his right foot by Cassius.... 2-0! Attacks were flowing forward now and Sam W made another great run and jinked his way through the defence and buried the ball into the far corner for 3-0!
Our attacks were constant but they often started from the back with Jimi and Zak controlling the game, being composed on the ball, giving their attackers nothing and setting our forward players away on breaks. Sam C was phenomenal in the middle of the park, creating space for himself to always be an option, which helped the whole team when moving forward!
Mr H made a couple of changes (This was difficult as everyone was fantastic in the first half). Dylan and Tom came on and knew they had to impress to keep up with the standard of the play in the first half. They did... Dylan was rock solid at the back, cleaning up and making great passes and Tom was a threat to their defence every time he got the ball.
We became a little gung ho for 5 minutes or so as everyone fancied a goal and we needed to let the ball do more of the work. This came back in though and the team were playing some amazing passing football once again with the attacks pouring on the opposition. The pressure told and the ball was fumbling around in the area and Tom got himself a well deserved goal for 4-0. We had a corner and the cross was pinpoint to the backpost, where our big centre forward (Cassius) was on hand to head the ball home past the keeper for 5-0..... The Perfect Hat Trick! Sam W got himself another goal with a cracking run through the defence and made it 6-0 with a composed finish into the bottom corner!
Our defence never switched off and were playing well.... until their captain made a fantastic run, beating a couple of defenders... He was clean through and tried an unbelievable lob that was going straight for the top corner, when out of nowhere came Joe with a flying, diving save to keep a clean sheet! What a save!
Player of the Match:
Cassius - A brilliant centre forward display... topped off with a perfect hat trick! Fantastic! Well played!
League Match v Langley
Team: Joe, Zak, Ella, Dylan, Raheem, Sam C, Sam W, Cassius, Tom & Jimmi
Now into our third match of the season, Peterbrook FC's confidence was high after the first two victories.
The weather was horrendous and poured down from the moment we kicked off, however that didn't stop Peterbrook from attacking from the start. We got a throw in up the top of the pitch and Raheem launched it in for Cassius to head past the keeper in slippery conditions to make it 1-0! Langley had a couple of half chances but never really tested Joe, however he was very commanding of his area and cleared up everything that came close. It was a close game going from end to end but the score remained 1-0 to Peterbrook FC at half time.
We picked up momentum in the second half and were on the front foot once again with a few good attacks and then Sam W went on a tricky run and drilled the ball into the near post to make it 2-0! We kept pressing and Tom got himself on the scoresheet with a tidy rebound finish into the bottom corner! 3-0!
We switched off a little towards the end of the game and Langley pressed high up and had a few chances but Joe was there to clean up everything and made some fantastic saves to keep them out! Langley did manage a long shot that took a wicked deflection past Joe to make it 3-1 but Peterbrook FC didn't look under any more threat and the game finished 3-1!
A fantastic team effort in the lovely rain!
Player of the Match:
Joe - He took control of his area and made some fantastic saves to keep us ahead in the game! Well played!
Team: Joe, Zak, Ella, Raheem, Sam C, Sam W, Cassius, Jimmi &Tom
On a cold and dark Tuesday evening, Peterbrook FC began their league fixtures with a tough opening game against Valley. The spirit of the team was strong on the back of a first round cup win and Peterbrook were up for the challenge.
It was a very tough battle throughout the first 10-15 minutes of the game with both teams closing the ball down and both teams having half chances with nothing really testing the keepers. Valley had a very talented player in the middle of the pitch, who kept cutting in on to his stronger right foot and taking long shots towards goal. We were happy with the long shots as Joe was never really tested in goal during this time.
With 5 minutes to go in the half, Peterbrook got on top of possession and started finding more and more space. Sam W and Sam C made fantastic runs down the wings and were causing all sorts of problems for the Valley defence. The ball was played in and Cassius somehow with his back to goal managed to flick the ball over his shoulder and past the keeper into the bottom corner - A cracking finish! 1-0 to Peterbrook. We were on top now and closing down their players very quickly. Sam W and Cassius won the ball back high up the pitch and played in Sam C who was denied by a fantastic save. He got the rebound and played it quickly to Zak, who let fly with a rocket of a shot that flew through the keepers hands and in to the back of the net! 2-0 to Peterbrook.
Half Time... Mr H had a word with the team and we discussed that we would keep pressing them and win the ball back quickly to stop their very skillful players having time on the ball.
This worked! We made changes, with Ella and Tom coming on. We won the ball back every time they got close to our goal and we were attacking from the start of the half. Sam W was showing off his pace and skill as time and again he made it past their defence to deliver a great ball across the goal. Eventually he got his rewards as he made a fantastic run and slotted the ball past the keeper to make it 3-0! We kept breaking down their attacks, as Ella, Raheem and Sam C managed to stop everything coming down to our end and were able to frustrate their players by us always having possession of the ball. When they did manage a couple of attacks, Joe was on hand to ensure that there was no danger by having very safe hands in our goal today!
We kept pushing forward and Jimmi worked his way through a couple of tackles and smashed the ball past the keeper to make it 4-0 to Peterbrook!
All in all, a very solid performance against some very good players today. We worked well as a team and that's what earned us the victory!
Player of the Match:
Sam W : His skills and pace were too much for the opposition to handle today and he scored a fantastic goal! Well played!
Team: Joe, Zak, Ella, Raheem, Sam C, Sam W, Cassius, Jake &Tom
We had our first match of the season this week in the Solihull FA Cup.
From the minute we kicked off Peterbrook were on top, creating chance after chance and deservedly took a quick 1-0 lead with a great strike from Cassius! We then switched off at the back in defense and allowed a free shot from inside the area where the Fordbridge striker hit a great shot past Joe, who couldn't do anything about it.
As it got closer to half time, Peterbrook regained their focus and pressed high up the pitch and managed to get a corner. Raheem stepped up and drilled it across the front post and got a deflection off the defender and rocketed into the goal; 2-1 to Peterbrook. We are giving the goal to Raheem as it was a fantastic ball in!
Half time. Tom came on for Cassius and Jake came on for Ella. Mr H had a quiet word with the team and encouraged them to stay focused at the back and to win the first ball in the middle of the park and chances would keep on coming.... and they sure did!
Chance after chance came because of the solid defending from both Zak and Jake! They both tidied everything up at the back, winning every tackle and playing simple but effective passes through the midfield! Sam W and Sam C were making amazing runs throughout the half and kept their keeper busy! Their keeper made some heroic saves until eventually Sam C found himself through one on one and slotted the ball past the keeper to make it 3-1.
We kept creating chances and Mr H made a couple more changes with 5 minutes to go. Both Sams came off and Ella and Cassius came back on.
Tom made some fantastic runs throughout the second half, battled well for every ball and created many chances. Peterbrook started to play some flowing football now and a sweet passing move down the right hand side got the ball to Tom who played it inside to Ella who picked out the far corner and made it 4-1.
We had chance for a final corner which Raheem floated to the back post where Ella once again was in the perfect place to 'thigh' the ball into the bottom corner! A world class finish!
All in all, an excellent start to the season! We have a great squad of players this year and we could do very well if we continue to work hard and stay focused!
Well done everyone!
Man of the match:
Raheem - Won everything in the middle of the park and made the game look very easy today! Well played!
