ECO Minutes 2014-15

These are our minutes of our ECO meetings.  Make sure you look every week to see what we have been doing.  A copy has also been put on our ECO board!

18th June 2015

Present: Mrs Edwards, Daniel, Tia, April, Pippa, Laila, James, Sam T, Katie and Hannah

Mrs Edwards started the meeting by announcing that we were going to be assessed for our Gren Flag renewal on Friday 19th June 2015. Mrs Edwards gave out more copies of the ECO code to the children and asked them to make sure they were up. We talked about having a green day and cake sale on that day and the children suggested making posters to promote it. Mrs Edwards said that they could do posters at home if they wished.

Mrs Edwards gave out the voting sheet for the adopt an animal project we are doing and told them to explain it to their teachers.

18th May 2015

Present: Mrs Edwards, Mrs Wainman, Daniel, Tia, April, Pippa, Laila, Demi-Leigh, Ajshe-Bleu, Sam T, Katie and Hannah

Mrs Edwards started the meeting off asking if there were any issues.  A couple of the children said that their class didn't have an ECO code.  Mrs Edwards will print some more off.

Mrs Edwards gave an update to the children on the Green Flag Assessment and the lottery bid.  Both applications are being processed now so hopefully it will not be too long before we get our Green Flag again and can start work on the garden.

We talked about how our actions could help other countries.  We decided that we would like to adopt an animal to help with the conservation in other countries.  Mrs Edwards said she would look into this and involve the whole school with the decision about which animal to help.  We talked about funding this - the children were very keen on raising the money themselves.  Mrs Edwards said that she would speak to Mrs Thorne about a possible cake sale on Green Day.

9th March 2015

Present: Mrs Edwards,  Daniel, Tia, April, Pippa, Laila, Demi-Leigh, Ajshe-Bleu, Sam T, Katie and Hannah

Mrs Edwards introduced our ECO Council Parent Representative, Mrs Wainman, to the children.  The children told her about the ECO code and what we are hoping to achieve by the end of the year.

Mrs Edwards reminded the children to put the recycling into the blue bin and not the main bin and also to carry on litter picking.

Katie and Hannah have completed their top tip for the newsletter and Assembly update which Mrs Edwards would give to Mrs Thorne.

19th January 2015

Present: Mrs Edwards, Daniel, Tia, April, Pippa,  Laila, Demi-Leigh, Ajshe-Bleu, Sam T,  Katie and Hannah

Mrs Edwards told the children that due to the new timetable changes, recycling is to be done on a Wednesday during singing practise.

Mrs Edwards then reminded the children to continue litter picking.  hannah said she found it difficult to do it on one day due to her House Captain responsibilities.  I told her to look at the rota and see if she can swap with someone.

Mrs Edwards talked them through the action plan and what our priorities were.  The children remembered that we are trying to get a pond.  Katie suggested that we have a fund raising day.  I told her we might do this if we need to top up the funds.

Mrs Edwards reminded the children about the ECO code and that Mrs Wainman, our parent representative is going to come to our next meeting to learn it from them.

Mrs Edwards then reminded the children that they wanted to do a top tip for the newsletter.  katie and Hannah said they would do the first one.  They will complete this for our next meeting in two weeks time.

Meeting closed at 10.40am

25th November 2014

Present: Mrs Edwards, Daniel, Tia, April, Pippa, Sophie, Laila, Demi-Leigh, Ajshe-Bleu, Sam T, James, Katie and Hannah

Today we talk about what we wanted to achieve this year.  The children worked in two teams and came up with the following ideas:-

- Design posters to remind people to save water.
- Redesign the ECO garden and incorporate a pond and more wildlife, for example, birds.
They were very keen to have a part in the design process.
- Have ECO top tips in the Newsletters.
- Renew our Green Flag
- Remind children in assemblies about picking up litter, saving energy and the ECO code.
- Plant a flower/plant in an ECO meeting and look after it in their classrooms.

Mrs Edwards said she would look into these ideas.  If you have any other ideas about how we can help our environment, please let us know!

28th October 2014

Present: Mrs Edwards, Daniel, Tia, April, Pippa, Sophie, Laila, Demi-Leigh, Ajshe-Bleu, Sam T, James, Katie and Hannah

Today the children bought their October walk to school charts to the meeting.  They worked in pairs to allocate badges to those children who had walked once a week.  They then took the tick sheets, badges and November's Walk to School charts back with them.

22nd September 2014

Present: Mrs Edwards, Daniel, Tia, April, Pippa, Sophie, Laila, Demi-Leigh, Ajshe-Bleu, Sam T, James, Katie and Hannah

We handed out the new ECO badges and welcommed our new ECO councillors from year 1.  We then sorted out the litter picking and recycling rotas.  Mrs Edwards reminded the children that they are not to go into the carpark unless they are supervised and that Miss Evans would be supervising them on Thursday assembly time.  Mrs Edwards suggested lunch time to be a good time for juniors to empty their recycling boxes as the lunch time supervisors can keep an eye on them.

We then talked about our plans for this year.  The children were really excited about our plans for a pond and wildlife area and we are going to discuss this further during our next meeting.
