Eco meetings 2018/19

May 2019

Good news! We our finally able to continue with our recycling job! We have received a new bin from the council, this bin means we can start recycling plastic. This was something that all classes asked for following our work during our Autumn Green Day this year on plastic in the oceans. Recycling will commence after the half term break in Summer 2!

I look forward to seeing you all again, Miss Belcher.

April 2019

Our meeting today was for Miss Belcher to explain that our recycling job will not be happening for a few weeks as our large recycling bin is being changed by the council. She will tell our teachers when recycling is back on. We also discussed that litter pickers haven’t been completing their job recently, so a message will be passed onto staff to remind the relevant year groups.

Our sculpture from the Fairtrade Trail has returned and is currently on display in our school office. Well done once again to Elise in 2H for winning the competition design.

February 2019

Today we completed a litter survey of our school grounds. We noticed that there was a lot of litter near the Year 2 and Year 1/5 doors (mainly plastic drinking straws!). We then completed a litter pick on the front playground to tackle this. Miss Belcher said she would ask staff members to remind children to throw all their rubbish into the bin or recycling bins.

We also discussed our latest competition for creating a Fairtrade sculpture for the Fairtrade Trail in Solihull Town Centre during February Half Term. The theme this year is ‘tea’.

November 2018

Today we had a meeting to discuss what our year groups were going to be doing for our Autumn Green Day. Miss Belcher explained that there was a new topic that we needed to cover as a school called marine. She explained to us what this meant, and we decided as a group that we wanted to focus on plastic in our oceans.

September 2018

Today we met as a group for the first time. Miss Belcher explained what our role was as Eco councillors to us and showed us how to complete our recycling job. We will meet every Wednesday assembly time to complete this unless we are having a meeting!
