Basketball - Round 3
Team: James, Cassius, Tyrese, Jimmi, Reece & Bradley
Peterbrook Bears headed into the final round of fixtures for the season with good confidence after the previous great performances shown by the team.
We played our first match of the day against a strong Ulverley 1st team and were 2-2 with 1 minute remaining in the match. It could have gone either way, but a long and hopeful loop towards the hoop somehow found its way into the basket to seal a victory for them. The Bears didn't let that phase them as they knew they performed fantastically well.
The next game was against another strong team, being Greswold 1st team. Peterbrook Bears took an early lead going 2-0 and were putting their team under excellent pressure. They did have a couple of very good (and tall) Year 6 boys who did manage to score though to make it 4-2 to them. After half time, the Bears came back again and scored an equalising basket and the score was 4-4 with about 1 minute to go. We were out battling the Greswold team, stealing the ball and working so hard as a team, but then a counter attack saw Greswold find their tall player who made it 6-4 with 30 seconds remaining. Peterbrook showed what they were made of and went straight back on the counter attack and Cassius dribbled brilliantly down the line past his defender and was about to shoot when he was called back for 'being out of bounds'. A very tough call this was, as he looked in bounds to me.
15 seconds to go and Greswold had the ball for a sideline ball and threw it in, only for us to steal the ball, which fell to James who took a shot... The referee blew the whistle whilst the ball was in the air and the other team celebrated.... however, the ball rolled around the rim and dropped into the hoop... Eventually the basket was allowed as when the ball has left the hands of the shooter, then the shot will count. What a finish to the game, which finished 6-6.
Our final match was against Greswold 2nd team, who put up a worthy battle, however we showed our class and won the game 2-0, with a winning basket from Cassius.
The Peterbrook Bears Basketball team finished in 3rd place (8 teams in total) in their very competitve league this season! After playing 9 matches this year, they were only 1 point behind 2nd Place and only 2 points behind the winners of the league (Greswold 1st team - who we had our fantastic match with), which shows just how close this league was.
The players were fantastic and should be extremely proud of themselves! Well done to all the boys involved this year!
Basketball - Round 2
Team: Bradley, Tyrese, Reece, Jimmi, James & George
The Peterbrook Bears played another 3 matches in the Solihull Schools Basketball league.
The team produced some fantastic performances and came away with two very convincing victories of 12-0 (Bradley x3, Reece, Jimmi and James) and 8-0 (Tyrese, Jimmi, Bradley and Reece). We were narrowly beaten by a team in our 3rd game and on another day, with some decisions going our way we could have got the victory.
The basketball that our team plays is an absolute pleasure to watch and every player shows a great attitude to the game!
We currently sit in 3rd place in the league, only 2 points behind the leaders... All to play for in the next round of matches... and I'm sure we will be ready!
Well played everyone!
Basketball Tournament - Day 1
Team: James, Cassius, Reece, Bradley, Jimmi & Tyrese
This was our first tournament of the year and we were all looking forward to the competition.
We played 3 matches and our games were against teams from Yew Tree, Ulverley and Greswold.
We dominated the first match against Yew Tree, playing really well and coming out with a 16-0 victory. Cassius scored 7 baskets with Jimmi scoring one as well.
We came out strong in our second match against Ulverley and had all the chances, but unfortunately couldn't score. The game finished 0-0 but on another day we would have scored more.
The third game was against a strong Greswold team that had won their two previous games. We were more than a match to them and scored a couple of good baskets through Cassius and Jimmi but Greswold got themselves 4 points too. The game finished 4-4 but again, could have been a win should a few of our shots bounced in.
This was our first experience of basketball matches against other schools and the boys put in a great effort and showed lots of potential. We won 1 match and drew 2. The match we won was very convincing and the others could have easily gone in our favour and I'm sure we will give all the teams a great challenge in the next tournament!
We currently sit in 3rd position, only 2 points behind the leaders and we are undefeated!
Well done everyone!
