ENGLISH

TRADITIONAL TALES FROM OTHER CULTURES: Traditional tales from other cultures: In this unit pupils explore several traditional stories from different cultures, written in a contemporary style. They become more familiar with the different structures of stories and the range of literary devices authors use to involve and engage the reader. Pupils will apply what they learn to further develop their language and writing skills.

FINDING THE BOY KING: This multi genre unit is linked to the study of Ancient Egypt and engages pupils in reading and writing a wide range of on-line and book based texts exploring the discovery of Tutankhamen’s tomb. Pupils create an exhibition to inform the school community of this aspect of their work in English which could be displayed as part of a wider exhibition of pupils’ work on Ancient Egypt.

MATHS

Refer to the new route through calculation document, the following topics will also be part of our Autumn term focus: number and place value | additions and subtractions | fractions including decimals and percentages | measurement through problem solving involving money | statistics- tables, charts and timetables | geometry- properties of shapes and work with angles.

SCIENCE

EARTCH AND SPACE: Incorporating Science and Design Technology, the children will be reflecting on the idea that one day, humans may need to leave the Earth and settle on another planet. Mars is our most likely destination – a world that we believe once harboured life and, with our intervention, may do so again in the future! This topic covers knowledge and understanding of the Earth, Space and Forces.

HISTORY AND GEOGRAPHY

ROMANS: The children will explore how the history of western civilisation was influenced by the Romans. Their expanding empires helped to spread ideas about architecture, food, entertainment, literature, science, medicine and politics across the globe. As their empires ended, other cultures rose to prominence, absorbing and passing on their own ideas and cultures – creating the world we know today.

PSHE

BEING ME IN MY WORLD: A Mindfulness approach to developing children’s emotional literacy and social skills, this unit covers topics such as personal goals and positivity, rights and responsibilities as a British citizen and as a member of our school, our behaviour and democracy.

CELEBRATING DIFFERENCE:  This unit covers cultural differences and conflicts, racism and bullying.

RE

Pupils will take part in activities that help to answer the questions:

WHAT MAKES A PLACE SACRED? and WHAT IS THE BEST WAY FOR A SIKH TO SHOW COMMITMENT TO GOD?

PE

During P.E. the children will develop a deeper knowledge and understanding of fitness and health; co-ordination through ball skills; agility through reaction and response; seated static balance and floor work.Swimming – pupils will work toward the National Curriculum requirements for swimming at Tudor Grange Leisure Centre.

COMPUTING

Pupils will learn how to safely and efficiently explore and search the internet as well as look at Technology in action in the real world!

ART & DESIGN

Creating effects through different techniques; look at 3-D work form different cultures and develop own.

DESIGN TECHNOLOGY

Researching materials and structures when designing a shelter suitable to sustain life on Mars!

MUSIC

Pupils will be following the charanga unit 'Livin' On A Prayer'. As well as learning to sing, play, improvise and compose with this song, children will listen and appraise other classic rock songs.

FRENCH

Pupils will take part in a variety of activities to learn the vocabulary and phrases around the topic of “Communicating Instructions.”
