Today was our science fair, and it was amazing! Thank you to everyone who took part. I know that the children who brought things in will have learnt a lot whilst working on their projects. I am also certain that everyone who visited the science fair will have come away with some new knowledge about the world of science. Here are some photographs of the science fair. I know that Miss Allen is displaying more of these elsewhere on the website.
Real Maths Day
Today Mr Parkinson came to talk to us about how he uses maths in his job. He told us that he has to use lots of measurements, such as centimetres and metres, as well as measuring the capacity of various spaces. The children asked lots of fabulous questions about maths and about how water gets into the taps in our homes. My favourite question was, "Why doesn't the water fall back down the pipe instead of coming out of the tap?". This prompted lots of discussion! Mr Parkinson then stayed to work with us during our maths reasoning lesson. We'd like to thank him for giving up his time to come and talk to us, and for providing us with lots of interesting information.
World Book Day
Today we had great fun celebrating everything we love about books and reading. The children (and staff) came dressed as their favourite book characters which added to the excitement of the day. Many children brought in one of their best loved books to share with their friends. We began our day with an assembly where everyone brought a book and read at the same time. It was a wonderful experience. Throughout the day, if we heard the hand-bell ringing we had to stop what we were doing and read for five minutes. During our English lesson, we each wrote a poem about Book Day based on 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' by Michael Rosen. I think I can safely say that we've all thoroughly enjoyed this special day and I, for one, am already looking forward to the next one!
The children in 2W had a great time learning how to ride their scooters and bikes safely and responsibly.
Picasso Style Portraits
Year 2 have been looking at famous people from the past. We have used pictures of some very famous people and cut them up to create our own art work in the style of Pablo Picasso. We hope you enjoy them, and maybe you can work out who some of them are...!
