Monday 29th June - 'Fork to Farm' trip to Tescos
On Monday we were lucky enough to visit Tescos in Monkspath to go behind the scenes and discover how some of the food we eat is made, where it comes from and also sample some different foodstuffs. We learned the process of how to make a loaf of bread, tested different kinds of cheeses and breads and made our very own fruit kebabs! We also got to go in the giant fridges and freezers where all the cold foods are stored...bbbbrrrr!!!! It was very cold but we learned a lot. Thank you to Mrs Lyko- Edwards for organising this visit!
As part of our topic on the Earth our home, we went on a nature walk around the school grounds armed with our I-pads! We were looking for any living things and their habitats. We found some amazing things - slugs, a bee, wood lice, spider, bluebells, a horse chestnut tree and even a toad! Here are some of the wonderful things we found.
Week commencing Monday 18th May
As part of our topic on The Earth our home and following our nature walk last week, we designed and made our own bee boxes out of simple material. We are going to leave them at various locations around the school to see if we get any buzzing visitors! Take a look at us in action!
Wednesday 20th May
As part of our RE lesson we have been learning about the importance and significance of the lotus flower in Buddhism and Hinduism. We made our own lotus flowers. Here we are hard at work!
Tuesday 2nd June
This week we are looking at poetry. We are looking at a selection of poems and we practised reciting one in small groups. It is a poem called Mice by Rose Fyleman. Take a look at our performances!!
Tuesday 9th June
We listened to a piece of music by Stravinsky called the Firebird and we created our own mythical creature - the Firemouse! Firemouse is a fearsome creature who appears like a normal mouse at first glance but on closer inspection you will notice the spikes on its tail and the glint of red in his fire burning eyes! He has the power to set light to any of his predators so watch out owls swooping down for a tasty midnight snack - this is no ordinary mouse!
We made up a short story about our mythical creature Firemouse and then composed some music in groups to tell our story.
It was dusk. Firemouse was gently and carefully leaving his fire hole to explore the night landscape. He began scampering around the dark moonlit ground exploring for a treat to eat. Little did Firemouse know that Twit Twoo the beady eyed owl was standing as still as a statue perched carefully on a branch watching his every move. Now owls are supposed to be wise creatures but unfortunately for Twit Twoo he did not realise that this was no ordinary mouse he was watching scurrying here and there! Twit Twoo took up his position and then swiftly and gracefully began his slow descent swooping down to try and catch his tasty midnight treat. Of course Firemouse with his special powers had already spotted Twit Twoo as he left the branch so all of a sudden just as Twit Twoo was about to pounce, Firemouse glared at him with his flame throwing eyes and Twit Twoo was enveloped in a ball of flames. Never mess with Firemouse!
Tuesday 9th June
Today we did some work based around a piece by Jean Cheszek.
Monday 15th June
We have started looking at a new topic in English - Journey stories. To start off our topic we looked at the story of 'we're going on a bear hunt' and in pairs mapped out the journey, acting out each different thing which we encountered - squishy squashy mud, swirling snowstorms and not forgetting the deep dark cave! Take a look at us in action as we journey through the story!
Tuesday 16th June
As part of our ongoing topic 'Hooray! Let's go on holiday!' we made some sand sculptures today. It's harder than it looks!!
